Several years after banning its first high-profile conservative figure for a dubious “terms of service” violation, and nearly a year to the day after suspending our own Laura Loomer, Twitter has finally gotten around to banning the accounts of radical Islamist groups from its platform.

According to Jonathan Conricus, the international spokesman for the Israeli Defense Forces, Twitter suspended English and Arabic speaking accounts related to HAMAS and Hezbollah, terror groups notorious for their operations in Gaza. At least one of the groups was verified by Twitter.

“There is no place on Twitter for illegal terrorist organizations and violent extremist groups,” a Twitter spokesperson reportedly told AFP.

But Jerusalem Post said that the suspensions were not good-faith based attempts to stop the flow of information from “illegal terrorist organizations,” but rather due to pressure from the U.S. government.

“A bipartisan group of US lawmakers accused the social media giant last week of violating American law by allowing content from US-designated terrorist groups to appear on the micro-blogging site,” the site said. “Congress ordered Twitter to suspend all accounts affiliated with Hezbollah and Hamas by November 2, according to Al-Manar TV, a Hezbollah-affiliated station that claimed most of its Twitter accounts had been suspended on Saturday.”

In other words, it was Twitter’s priority to make sure that Western conservatives were banned from its platform for spreading conservative ideas, while Middle Eastern terror groups, known for bombings and beheadings, remained.

Loomer was suspended after calling Muslim Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), known for her anti-Semitism and support of terror-controlled Gaza, “anti-Jewish.”

Before her, Milo Yiannopoulos was the first truly high-profile conservative to be totally banned from the platform. In 2015, his account was permanently suspended (an Orwellian term used in an attempt to sanitize the action) after his followers allegedly harassed actress Leslie Jones. At the time, Yiannopoulos had been critical of the all-female Ghostbusters reboot featuring Jones. That was enough for him to be nuked forever, but since then, HAMAS-related accounts have been operating with impunity.

Several other high-profile conservatives have been banned, too, including Gavin McInnes and Alex Jones, all while terror groups used Twitter to spread Islamic extremism.

Loomer is engulfed in a fierce fight with Big Tech after suing Google, Facebook and Twitter. In August, we reported:

Laura Loomer has won her appeal against Big Tech giants Apple, Facebook, Google, and Twitter, and will see her day against them in the DC Circuit Court of Appeals.

Loomer is suing the Big Tech giants for conspiring to suppress her speech because of her political views. Loomer has been banned from Facebook and Twitter.

The lawsuit alleges antitrust violations on the part of the Big Tech companies, as well as a discrimination complaint against conservatives. The Federal District Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, considered the most powerful court in America besides the Supreme Court itself, will hear the merits of the lawsuit after overturning a decision made by a lower court.

Loomer is also suing the Council on Islamic-American Relations (CAIR), a designated terrorist group in some countries, for allegedly working with Twitter to get her banned. While CAIR was allegedly lobbying to have Loomer banned for discussing radical Islamist on Twitter, it was silent about the presence of radical Islamists on the social networking site, an implicit endorsement of their presence.

It has been an uphill battle against Big Tech, but the political right is making headway in balancing the scales of power.
