Cafe Resistance Bookstore & Coffee Shop, the Jacksonville business owned by Democrat U.S. Senate nominee Angie Nixon, appears in Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) records dated August 20, 2026, as a permanent food-service operation with a license status of “Delinquent” and “Active.”
The license expired on June 1, 2026. By late August, the shop was roughly 11 weeks past due, and in Florida, a food-service establishment that continues operating after its license expires is treated as unlicensed.
“Delinquent, Active” is the state’s designation for a license that has not been renewed but has not been formally closed out. Florida is basically saying that the license has lapsed, and the business is still listed as operating anyway.
The DBPR filing does not, by itself, show whether the shop has stopped serving food or whether a renewal is pending. What it does show is that the required food-service license at Nixon’s business has lapsed for nearly three months while the establishment remained listed as active. That time period covers the entire final sprint of Nixon’s Democrat Senate primary campaign and the weeks since her August 18th primary win.
Cafe Resistance opened in 2024 as a socialist-themed coffee shop. It sells books, including titles restricted in some Florida schools for sexualizing children. It operates a community pantry that has offered free Plan B and other supplies, and it has been used for voter registration drives and neighborhood events.
Nixon has described the business as a community hub and a response to Florida’s book restrictions. But, if you are going to run a politicized storefront as an extension of your campaign brand, the food license must be current. Duval County does not make exceptions for businesses owned by state legislators or Senate candidates. They must abide by the same rules every other business is forced to abide by.

As Loomered.com has previously exposed, Nixon’s disregard for the rules and Florida laws is part of a larger pattern. Official records reveal she has racked up multiple serious traffic citations and multiple accidents. In 2019, she drove into oncoming traffic with her minor daughter in the car, injuring the child and causing thousands of dollars in damage. Nixon then stiffed the hospital on the medical bills for her daughter and herself, resulting in liens filed against her.
A delinquent food license at a business owned by a candidate now seeking one of Florida’s two U.S. Senate seats fits the same pattern. In Angie Nixon’s world, it seems, it’s rules for thee but not for me.
Nixon won the Democrat Senate primary several weeks ago and will face Republican Sen. Ashley Moody in November. Moody, Florida’s former attorney general, was appointed to the Senate seat by Governor Ron DeSantis after Marco Rubio became Secretary of State, and the special election covers the final two years of the term.
The race features a former state attorney general versus a communist nominee whose own coffee shop could not stay legal for the summer. From business licenses to traffic regulations, Angie Nixon thinks she’s above the law. It’s up to the voters in Florida to decide if those qualities are a feature and not a bug in Nixon’s life as they head to the polls in November.
