North Carolina Democrat Senate candidate Roy Cooper is no longer pretending to be a moderate after a revealing interview with far-left election lawyer Marc Elias on the Democracy Docket podcast. During the discussion, Cooper made it clear that his campaign is rooted in the same tired “Trump is a threat” narrative while doubling down on failed left-wing economic policies like Obamacare expansion and government-imposed energy mandates.
During the interview, Elias, one of the Democrat Party’s top legal operatives and a central figure behind multiple anti-Trump election efforts, framed Cooper’s Republican opponent Michael Whatley as a danger to democracy.
“He turned the RNC into a voter suppression war machine to propagate Donald Trump lies. I think he is as big a threat to free and fair elections. Do I have that basically right, or am I missing something?” Elias asked.
Cooper didn’t hesitate to agree. “Well, obviously he was and still is today a 2020 election denier,” Cooper said, echoing the same Democrat talking points used to smear Trump and his allies.
The theme continued throughout the interview, with Elias attempting to position Cooper as an “expert” on so-called threats to democracy because of his time as North Carolina’s attorney general and governor.
“You’re running against Michael Whatley, who I call the field general of election deniers under Donald Trump. So, you’re really the perfect person to talk about these democracy issues,” Elias said.
“It’s really frustrating to see democracy be perverted like this,” Cooper replied.
But while Cooper was eager to attack Trump and Whatley, he also used the interview to boast about pushing deeply unpopular left-wing policies in North Carolina.
“I finally got the Republican legislature to expand Medicaid,” Cooper said, celebrating his role in implementing Obamacare expansion in the state. “They had said, ‘We’re not going to do it because it’s Obamacare.’ So, we worked around them.”
Cooper also bragged about imposing aggressive climate mandates that mirror the Green New Deal and make life more expensive for Americans. “And then we were able to get this legislature to pass a bill to get us to carbon zero by 2050 in our power sectors,” he said.
Financial records show a clear web of connections between Cooper, Senate Democrats, and Elias himself. In 2025 alone, the DSCC poured more than $62,000 into Cooper’s campaign while directing over $3 million to Elias Law Group, the firm founded by Marc Elias.
As previously reported by Loomered.com, Cooper has also benefited from a network of donations tied to powerful Democrat figures like Chuck Schumer, often funneled through PACs with obscure names designed to mask their origins.
Elias himself has a long and well-documented history of anti-Trump activism. He served as a top election lawyer for Joe Biden during the stolen 2020 Presidential election and continues to push false and inflammatory rhetoric about Trump’s intentions.
In a recent post on X, Elias claimed that President Trump is attempting to manipulate future elections through foreign policy decisions.
“As this war deepens, I suggest you read what I wrote about Donald Trump’s plan to use his attack on Iran to justify a power grab over voting in the 2026 midterms,” Elias wrote.
In another post dated March 1, Elias wrote:
“Trump started a war and blamed Iran for his defeat in 2020. He is plotting to steal the 2026 election. And David Ellison just won control of CNN. Democracy Docket is fiercely independent and pro-democracy. It never backs down.”
As Loomered.com recently reported, Cooper has also been campaigning alongside far-left Senator Cory Booker, who voted twice to convict President Trump and has supported policies that undermine immigration enforcement.
Despite media efforts to brand him as a centrist, Roy Cooper is running a campaign built on attacking Trump, advancing government-controlled healthcare, support for open borders. and pushing aggressive climate mandates.
If elected to the US Senate, Cooper would not be an independent voice for North Carolina. He would be another reliable vote for Chuck Schumer’s woke agenda and the Democrat Party’s ongoing war against Donald Trump.
