Since the disastrous election results in November 2025, Virginia has become ground zero for what happens when Democrats no longer need to pretend they’re moderates.
With the votes counted, including many fraudulent votes, and the power secured, Democrats are showing their true colors.
Under the direction of Rep. Abigail Spanberger’s political machine, the Commonwealth is being reshaped at breakneck speed. The state that produced George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison is now being treated less like the cradle of American liberty and more like territory to be ideologically “managed.”
President Trump has slammed Spanberger’s power grab in Virginia:
“Heading to Virginia for meetings at Trump National. I can’t believe what this new Governor, Spanberger, has done to the Commonwealth — So sad! She is adding so many Taxes, a Food and Beverage Tax, Digital Services Tax, Utilities Tax, and more. It has lost its Energy, Vitality, and Strength. People are leaving that would never have even thought of doing so! New companies that signed to come into the Commonwealth under Governor Youngkin are now looking for ways to get out — Break their Deal. It all happened so fast! This went from a thriving and powerful place, one envied by all, to a Commonwealth run by a person who has no concept of Low Taxes and Economic Strength. People that voted for Spanberger are saying to themselves, “Why did I do that, what have I done?” We have a similar situation in New York and, most of all, in California, where Rich, Job Producing people and companies are being forced to FLEE at levels never seen before. The Tax Base in California is literally disappearing, as some of the richest people and companies in the World have no choice but to leave. They want to put on a Wealth Tax, which gives them absolutely no alternative — As President of the United States, I am embarrassed to watch the Destruction of once Great and Thriving States! These politicians are all sinking in the Polls, but that doesn’t help because they will create Trillions of Dollars worth of Destruction — Incalculable amounts. Remember, once people and companies leave, they are never coming back! President DONALD J. TRUMP”
Virginia has elevated Ghazala Hashmi to lieutenant governor, the first Muslim to hold the office. Hashmi chose to be sworn in on the Quran, a symbolic move Democrats praised as “historic,” while ignoring the legitimate concerns many Americans have about importing religious doctrines fundamentally at odds with the First Amendment.
And now, those concerns are being vindicated.
Enter Sen. Saddam Azlan Salim, a Democrat representing Virginia’s 37th District and a first-generation immigrant from Bangladesh. In January, Salim introduced SB 624, legislation that quietly lays the groundwork for criminalizing criticism of Islam under Virginia’s assault and battery statutes.
The bill creates a formal legal definition of “Islamophobia,” describing it as “malicious prejudice or hatred directed toward Islam or Muslims.” Crucially, the bill does not require the alleged victim to actually be Muslim, only that the speaker perceived them as such.
The bill explicitly elevates Islam alone under the umbrella of “religious conviction.” Christianity, Judaism, and other faiths are conspicuously absent. In a state already seeing rising anti-Christian and antisemitic incidents, Democrats chose to protect exactly one religion, and one religion only.
SB 624 also mandates that the Virginia State Police, in coordination with the Attorney General and the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, integrate this definition into the state’s hate-crime reporting system. Translation: speech critical of Islam could soon be tracked, investigated, and prosecuted as a hate offense just like it is in Europe.
That is not “tolerance.” That is state-enforced orthodoxy.
Salim has also pushed legislation severing cooperation between ICE and local law enforcement, restricting traffic enforcement under the guise of “equity,” and preventing schools from sharing immigration information with federal authorities. Governor Spanberger has allowed this anti-ICE proposal to become law, creating an opportunity for illegals to run rampant in the Commonwealth.
In an interview with Fox News, Border Czar Tom Homan said the anti-ICE law would make Virginia less secure. However, he will continue enforcing America’s immigration laws despite the hurdle, just like he has done in Minnesota and every other state.
“Elections have consequences,” Homan explained. “[Spanberger] ran on a law enforcement position that she was a career law enforcement person. [She] is a much different person now since she’s in that governor’s slot.”
The left-wing pattern is clear: weaken border enforcement, restrict policing, and criminalize dissent. This is not pluralism. It’s ideological capture. There Is No “Phobia” in Free Speech
Let’s be precise: a phobia is an irrational fear. Criticizing an ideology, any ideology, is not fear. It’s speech. And in America, speech is protected precisely because it offends power.
The Democratic Party’s goal is not harmony. It’s control. By redefining political disagreement as “hate,” they weaponize the legal system against citizens who refuse to submit. It’s authoritarianism wearing a diversity badge.
The Founding Fathers understood something modern Democrats want Americans to forget: a republic cannot survive if loyalty to the Constitution is optional.
There is growing public support for extending constitutional safeguards, originally applied only to the presidency, to other high offices of power. That debate is no longer fringe. It has become mainstream. When elected officials use the law to silence criticism of a religion or ideology, they are no longer governing in the American tradition. They are rewriting it.
If this dangerous Islamic agenda isn’t stopped in Virginia, it will spread like cancer to other states.
