President Trump made the right decision for his administration and for America. The Trump administration cannot afford another bureaucrat who treats the IRS like a political shield for Democrats, especially as the president targets the nonprofit industrial complex used by the left to bankroll political violence. President Trump’s September memorandum, “Countering Domestic Terrorism and Organized Political Violence,” puts the IRS on notice: investigate the far-left nonprofits funded by megadonors like the Soros network, which are linked to demonstrators supporting Hamas and open borders.

Don Korb’s record strongly suggests that he would not follow through with President Trump’s order to hold violent far-left non-profits accountable. As President George W. Bush’s IRS Chief Counsel, Korb supported the “one bite rule,” which effectively handcuffed whistleblowers by limiting them to a single opportunity to present evidence. Under Korb’s leadership, IRS whistleblowers exposing left-wing nonprofits tied to political violence would have been boxed into a corner the moment they spoke up.
Mr. Korb’s political instincts are as poor as his policy choices. In 2017, he gushed over Chuck Schumer, calling him the man who “gets things done” as President Trump fought to pass tax cuts over unified opposition from Democrats. Korb was dead wrong when he predicted Senate Democrats would work with Republicans to craft sensible tax policy.
Korb’s donations tell the same story. Korb poured money into the campaigns of Democrats like Gina Raimondo, a relentless “Stop Trump” activist who co-chaired Organizing Together 2020 to help Joe Biden prevail over Trump in swing states. As President Biden’s Commerce Secretary, Raimondo pushed DEI hiring across federal agencies. President Trump has made rolling back biased, illegal DEI policies a cornerstone of his domestic policy agenda. Korb’s support for Raimondo inspires little confidence that he would help President Trump fulfill his anti-DEI campaign promises to the American people.
Korb also supported President Trump’s GOP presidential primary opponents in 2016 and 2024. FEC records show that Korb donated to the campaigns of Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio in the 2016 GOP presidential primary before switching to President Trump after he became the clear nominee. Once again in the 2024 GOP presidential primary, Korb donated to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis without even bothering to donate to Trump after he locked up the nomination.
These aren’t the actions of someone aligned with President Trump’s ambitious agenda to Make America Great Again. They’re the actions of a DC insider who plays both sides for personal gain at the expense of the America First voters who put Trump back in office. No wonder Sheldon Whitehouse, one of the Senate’s loudest anti-Trump voices, supported Korb’s nomination before it collapsed under scrutiny.
After my reporting exposing Korb’s anti-Trump record, legacy outlets like Politico, Bloomberg, and the New York Times admitted the truth: Korb’s record was full of red flags that were impossible to ignore.
With the 2026 midterm elections approaching, political violence will be a defining issue. The IRS Chief Counsel must be someone who can confront, not coddle, far-left organizations fueling unrest. Don Korb was not that person. President Trump made the right call.
