On Wednesday, freshman Democrat Rep. LaMonica McIver of New Jersey refused to apologize for assaulting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers in Newark ata protest last week. Loomer Unleashed confronted McIver as she arrived at a House Homeland Security Committee hearing to question Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem. Ironically, despite being pro-open borders and in support of assaulting ICE agents, Rep. McIver serves on the Homeland Security Committee in Congress.
Confronted by Loomer Unleashed, McIver Dodges Accountability
As she entered the Homeland Security hearing, Rep. McIver was confronted by Loomer Unleashed DC Correspondent Charles Downs, who asked:“Will you issue a heartfelt apology for assaulting the ICE agent the other day?”
When she refused to answer, Downs asked a follow up question, “Do you think it’s appropriate behavior for members of Congress to assault ICE agents?”
McIver did not respond to either inquiry.
McIver Plays the Victim After Attacking Federal Agents
During the hearing, Rep. McIver questioned DHS Secretary Noem—despite having assaulted an ICE agent, who is, technically, a Department of Homeland Security employee. After the hearing, McIver took to X to play the victim, posting: “It is our job, as members of Congress, to get answers for the American people—especially from members of this administration who are mismanaging our security. This isn’t about me. It never has been. It’s about doing the job.”
Jeffries Threatens DHS and Blames ICE
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries has staunchly defended Rep. McIver. At a Tuesday press conference, Jeffries issued a warning: “DHS better not touch our members. If they do, they’ll find out.” He also released a statement praising McIver, saying, “I thank Reps. Bonnie Watson Coleman, Rob Menendez, and LaMonica McIver for showing up, standing up, and speaking out today in Newark, along with Mayor Ras Baraka… The masked agents who physically accosted two Congresswomen must be identified immediately, and any trumped-up charges against Mayor Baraka must be dropped.”
Jeffries Fast-Tracked McIver Despite Lack of Homeland Security Experience
Democrat House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries has been a key supporter of Rep. McIver since her September 2024 special election victory to represent New Jersey’s 10th Congressional District. On September 23, 2024, Jeffries announced McIver’s appointment to the Homeland Security Committee, stating, “Today, I am honored to announce that the Steering and Policy Committee has recommended that Rep. LaMonica McIver be appointed to the Committee on Homeland Security.”
McIver’s Biography Lacks Relevant Qualifications for Committee Assignment
Minority Leader Jeffries’ decision to appoint freshman Rep. McIver to the Homeland Security Committee has raised eyebrows, as her official Congressional biography highlights a background in education and human resources—with no mention of national security or law enforcement expertise. Her bio states, “The first Black woman to represent NJ-10 and the youngest ever to be elected to the United States House of Representatives from New Jersey, LaMonica McIver was sworn into Congress on September 23, 2024. She is a member of the House Small Business and Homeland Security Committees.”
FEC Records Reveal Rep. McIver’s $30K Contribution to DCCC
Rep. McIver’s rapid rise within the Democrat ranks is also reflected in her campaign contributions. Federal Election Commission records reveal that LAMONICA MCIVER FOR CONGRESS donated $10,000 to the Democrat Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) on March 12, 2025, and another $20,000 on March 21—totaling $30,000. That figure exceeds contributions from some veteran Democrats, including Rep. Eric Swalwell, who has given just $10,000 to the DCCC this year.
Jeffries Prioritizes Anti-Trump Allegiance And Identity Politics Over Qualifications in Elevating Rep. McIver
Representative McIver’s rapid ascent within the Democrat Party suggests that Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries values identity politics over skills or merit. That alone should raise serious concerns for Americans about the prospect of Jeffries becoming Speaker of the House after the 2026 midterms if Republicans fumble a midterm victory and lose control of the House.
