Caught on Camera: Crockett’s Security Detail Exposes Hypocrisy
The encounter unfolded when Charles Downs, a journalist with Loomer Unleashed, approached the congresswoman, asking: “Congresswoman Crockett, why are you using taxpayer-funded private security when you were the one who struck me first? Would you like to apologize?” The video shows Crockett declining to respond directly, instead walking alongside her security detail before entering a black SUV—a vehicle choice that deviates from the typical transportation practices of Congressional members on Capitol Hill.
Crockett’s 2021 Defense of Defunding Police Resurfaces
Crockett’s use of personal security stands in stark contrast to her earlier public statements. On May 26, 2021, while serving as a Texas state representative, Crockett posted a video on her official Facebook page of a speech she delivered to the Texas Legislature. In it, she defended the defund the police movement, stating, “The Defund movement seeks to actually bring about healing… Defund is about finally being smart on crime.” In the accompanying caption, she criticized Texas House Republicans for rejecting calls for “justice, change, and accountability” following the murder of George Floyd. She wrote, “The defund movement is a reaction to injustice and inaction. It is about reimagining public safety and reinvesting in services that reduce crime and alleviate the burden on law enforcement.”
Repeat Confrontations With Journalist Highlight Pattern
This is not the first time Rep. Crockett has clashed with Downs. In March 2025, she became visibly agitated after Downs questioned her about comments made during a Tesla-related organizing call, which some interpreted as inciting violence at Tesla showrooms. When pressed to clarify her statements and condemn potential violence, Crockett grabbed Downs’ phone and hand, muttering what appeared to be, “See what I have to deal with,” before walking away.
