Senate Majority Leader John Thune has amassed a lot of Never Trump support around him. Outgoing Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell groomed Senate Majority Leader Thune for his new role and ensured Thune’s staff is full of Trump hate. Majority Leader Thune’s Chief of Staff, Geoffrey Antell, served as Paul Ryan’s Top Policy Assistant from January 2016 to January 2019. Paul Ryan served as the 54th speaker of the United States House of Representatives from 2015 to 2019. During this time, Ryan worked to undermine and obstruct President Trump’s agenda. In October 2016, Ryan infamously stopped campaigning for Trump just one month before the election. Antell seems eager to set up roadblocks for Trump again, as Thune said on Thursday that he does not believe he has the votes to recess the Senate for recess appointments. It is pretty sad that Thune believes he does not have the votes to call a recess, considering Republicans control the United States Senate. Majority Leader Thune has a lot of work to do to win over the trust of GOP voters.

Paul Ryan took numerous anti-Trump stances during Geoffrey Antell’s time as Ryan’s Top Policy Assistant. In October 2016, Ryan infamously stopped campaigning for Trump just one month before the election. CNN supported Ryan’s decision to abandon Trump with their October 11th, 2016 headline on the subject reading, “Paul Ryan said he won’t defend Donald Trump.”
Geoffrey Antell seems eager to set up roadblocks for Trump again. On Thursday, John Thune said he does not believe he has the votes to recess the Senate for recess appointments. It is sad that Thune believes he does not have the votes to call a recess, considering Republicans control the United States Senate. Also, Chuck Schumer, the Senate Democrats, and a handful of RINOS could very well refuse to recess for all four Trump years, thus stopping Trump’s recess nomination process and stalling Trump’s agenda.
Laura Loomer posted on the RINOS in Thune’s inner circle, “The US Senate leadership is being loaded up with Trump haters and staffers who worked with RINOS during the first Trump admin to obstruct Trump in the US Senate. I hate to inform you that it is about to get worse than it already is for us in the US Senate despite all of the so called “winning” that so many Republicans keep posting about as they continue to remain intoxicated on Kumbaya Koolaid. It’s all very unnerving and unsettling. Is this what we worked so hard for? A Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell Shadow Government in the US Senate during the Trump admin? I’m disappointed.”
Republican voters empowered the Senate GOP in the last election by giving them control of the United States Senate. It’s up to the Senate GOP to stand with their voters and deliver on President Trump’s agenda. It would be disgusting if Thune fails to deliver on the mandate set forth by the GOP’s voters.
