Tim Walz Subpoenaed By Congress Over Covid Scam That Caused Minnesota Kids To Starve

Another false Democrat claim about the Harris-Walz campaign came crashing down on Wednesday. The Education and the Workforce Committee announced that Tim Walz had been subpoenaed and ordered to appear before Congress on September 18th. The subpoena issued by the Education and the Workforce Committee centers around the organization Feeding Our Future, which defrauded United States taxpayers $250 million by claiming to be feeding kids who were out of school during the COVID pandemic. Walz has yet to hold any Minnesota State Department of Education officials accountable for the scam, saying, “There’s not a single state employee that was implicated in doing anything that was illegal. They simply didn’t do as much due diligence as they should’ve.” It is very telling that in Tim Walz’s Minnesota, state employees are given a pass for not doing their due diligence on an issue that led to kids starving. The Harris campaign has been touting Walz’s “education expertise” to voters by highlighting his experience as a high school teacher. However, Walz’s failure to properly do his duties as Minnesota Governor by failing to oversee the Minnesota Department of Education exposes another Harris campaign lie, showing Tim Walz is not the education “expert” that Kamala Harris falsely claims that he is.

The press release on Walz’s subpoena from the Education and Workforce Committee shows the depravity of the Feeding Our Future Covid scam reading, “In 2022, a U.S. attorney charged 70 individuals associated with Minnesota-based Feeding Our Future (FOF) for their alleged roles in defrauding the USDA of over $250 million in taxpayer funds—money intended to feed hungry children. To date, five individuals have been convicted of fraud that the assistant U.S. attorney on the case called “not just criminal, [but] depraved and brazen.” Charges include federal programs bribery, wire fraud, conspiracy, and money laundering. While dozens are still awaiting trial, questions remain regarding the role of the Minnesota Department of Education’s (MDE) administration of the Federal Child Nutrition Programs and its oversight of FOF.”

The Education and Workforce Committee’s subpoena clearly lays out Walz’s role as Minnesota governor in the scandal, “As the chief executive and the highest ranking official in the state of Minnesota, you are responsible for the MDE and its administration of FCNPs. Article V Section 3 of the Constitution of the State of Minnesota which lays out the powers and duties of the governor, states in part that the governor ‘may require the opinion in writing of the principal officer in each of the executive departments upon any subject relating to his duties,’ and ‘he shall take care that the laws be faithfully executed.'”

The Education and Workforce Committee’s subpoena also details disturbing details, including that Walz did not hold any Minnesota Department of Education officials accountable because they simply did not do their due diligence. It is very telling that in Tim Walz’s Minnesota, state employees are given a pass for not doing their due diligence on an issue that led to kids starving. This section of the Education and Workforce Committee’s subpoena reads, “When you were asked about your decision of not holding agencies accountable and if MDE employees would be disciplined, you replied, ‘This wasn’t malfeasance.’ You also stated, ‘There’s not a single state employee that was implicated in doing anything that was illegal. They simply didn’t do as much due diligence as they should’ve.’ According to press reports, however, one of your spokespersons said your administration ‘has already made many of the corrective actions suggested by the OLA [Office of the Legislative Auditor] and taken ‘strong steps to find and eliminate any remaining vulnerabilities in government programs.”

Democrats can’t claim that the Education and Workforce Committee’s subpoena of Walz is “political” because the committee has been investigating the Feeding Our Future COVID scam since 2023. “On November 14, 2023, and June 14, 2024, letters were sent to MDE requesting information regarding its handling of the FCNP and the FOF fraud. The documents we have received to date indicate the actions taken by you and other executive officers were insufficient to address the massive fraud.”

It is ironic that the Harris campaign has been touting Walz’s “education expertise” to voters by highlighting his experience as a high school teacher. However, Walz’s failure to properly do his duties as Minnesota Governor by failing to oversee the Minnesota Department of Education exposes another Harris campaign lie, proving yet again that there is nothing truthful about the Harris-Walz campaign.
