During a CNN Town Hall on Wednesday night, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was asked by Jake Tapper who his favorite Florida Democrat official is, and if he had a top ten list of Democrats he likes in Florida. DeSantis didn’t skip a beat in telling Tapper that his favorite Democrat is Broward County Sheriff Gregory Tony, who was appointed as Sheriff of Broward County by Ron DeSantis in January 2019 following the removal of Sheriff Scott Israel in the aftermath of the Parkland school school shooting. When Tony was appointed, he was lauded as being the first black man to become sheriff in Broward County, Florida. Essentially, Tony was a DEI hire, and his record alone should have disqualified him from ever being Sheriff.

Why is it so problematic that Ron DeSantis, who is still under the delusion that he is going to be President, named Gregory Tony as his favorite Democrat?

Tony, who is a Democrat, is facing criticism for lying on multiple law enforcement job applications in the state of Florida, and failing to disclose that he was charged with murder in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Tony also lied on the same job applications about his drug use. In 2020, Tony embraced the BLM-Antifa riots, the Jane’s Revenge-Antifa vandalism of 2022, and the mostly peaceful Hamas protests of 2023. Due to this, Broward County, Florida, has become a crime-ridden criminal hotbed, and despite widespread calls over the last four years by other members of law enforcement who have called on DeSantis to remove Tony, DeSantis has refused. Ron DeSantis has the power to fire Tony, but instead, he has continued to praise or defend Tony every step of the way.

JAKE TAPPER, CNN: “Who is your favorite Democrat official in Florida?”

RON DESANTIS: “So I appointed a fellow down in Broward County to replace Scott Israel, who had a great life story, we put him there, Greg Tony.”

An investigation into Tony by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Office of Executive Investigations Public Corruption Unit reveals that Tony’s life story is not the picture-perfect story that Ron DeSantis attempted to portray during his CNN Town Hall.

According to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Office of Executive Investigations Public Corruption Unit’s report, Tony was charged with murder in Philadelphia. The key findings read, “OEI Inspectors obtained and reviewed records pertaining to PPD case number H93-144. Per the records, Gregory Toney-Scott (Tony), was arrested for the May 3, 1993 murder of eighteen-year-old Hector Rodriguez. A review of the homicide file revealed that on May 4, 1993, pursuant to the investigation conducted in case number H93-144, Tony was arrested and charged with murder, possessing instruments of crime, possession of an unlicensed firearm, and carrying firearms on public streets or public property in Philadelphia.”

Homicide records from the Philadelphia Police Department show that Detective Michael Gross arrested Greg Tony for the murder of Hector Rodriguez at 10:40 am on May 4th, 1993.

The Philadelphia Police Department homicide report also contains an eyewitness report from a man named David Serrano, who was visiting his father’s store down the street from where the murder happened. Serrano told police that he believed there was no reason for Tony to shoot Rodriguez, and Serrano thought Tony was in no danger at the time of the shooting. These details are key, as Tony claimed that his shooting was in self-defense.

Serrano’s account of the shooting is horrific, essentially describing a murder in cold blood. Serrano told Philadelphia Police officers, “Hector put his hands up like this. [Indicating his arms above his head with the palms facing forward, like a surrendering position] ‘Hector said if you’re going to shoot me, shoot me.’ Then Greg just shot him.”

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement Office of Executive Investigations obtained Greg Tony’s 2005 application to the Coral Springs Police Department. In his application, Tony lied about being in a fight where a weapon was used, being accused of misconduct, causing the injury or death of another person, being questioned by a law enforcement agency or being the suspect of an investigation, and being involved in something you could be arrested for.  One of the creepiest answers Tony gave on his 2005 application was writing fighting in response to the question that asked what was the most serious thing he had ever done, which vaguely refers to his Philadelphia arrest.

In comparison to being arrested and standing trial for murder, The Florida Department of Law Enforcement Office of Executive Investigations also found less serious but still disqualifying factors in Tony’s law enforcement history. Investigators discovered that in 2005, the Tallahassee Police Department refused to hire Tony due to his LSD use. Investigators also discovered that Tony has a lengthy history of unpaid traffic tickets.

Unsurprisingly, in the same year of 2005, Tony lied on his application to Coral Springs Police Department about his LSD use, answering no to the question, “List the times and dates you have personally used hallucinogens.” Tony also lied on the application about being arrested and about receiving a notice to appear before a judge.

In a January 11th, 2019, press release announcing the appointment of Greg Tony, Ron DeSantis referred to Tony as a competent leader, saying, “The people of Broward County deserve accountable, competent leaders who can safeguard our communities.” To say DeSantis made a poor choice of words when describing Tony would be an understatement.

When news of Tony’s Philadelphia arrest broke, Ron DeSantis defended Tony while at the same time attempting to play ignorant, saying, “It seems like he was very in a rough neighborhood and was trying to defend his family, it did not come out in the background check because he had never been charged or have anything come up on the record. It’s not like he’s my Sheriff. I did not even know the guy.”

DeSantis’s statement, “It did not come out in a background check because he had never been charged,” is a flat-out lie that DeSantis’s own Florida government has backed up, via the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Office of Executive Investigation into Tony that has records from Philadelphia that show Tony was both arrested and stood trial for murder. How could DeSantis’s people have missed this? Or did they know this information and not care? Either way, this behavior from DeSantis is inexcusable.

DeSantis claiming Tony is not his Sheriff is a lie, too, as DeSantis appointed Tony. Also, if DeSantis did not really know Tony as he claims, then why did DeSanits appoint someone he barely knows to become the Broward County Sheriff? This statement from DeSantis is either a flat-out lie, or it shows true incompetence. Whichever one it is, DeSantis has proven that he does not have the skills necessary to be President of the United States.

Tony has been a disaster as Broward County Sheriff. In 2020, when law enforcement and Trump supporters were under attack from BLM and ANTIFA mostly peaceful protesters, Tony decided to kneel with BLM instead of standing for the rule of law. Roger Stone captioned Loomer’s video sharing this horrific behavior, writing, “.@LauraLoomer previously exposed the DeSantis-appointed Sheriff Gregory Tony for kneeling to BLM radicals.”

Tony’s support of BLM-ANTIFA can’t be overstated. In June 2020, during the height of the mostly peaceful protests, Tony announced that he would be implementing a $1 million countywide Racial Equity and Implicit Bias Training Program for law enforcement officers, which aims to combat racism. In the same press release, Tony attempts to make the failed argument that pandering to the BLM-ANTIFA mostly peaceful protesters will somehow lead to safer communities. DeSantis is essentially embracing Alex Soros’ model sheriff.

Tony’s embracement of BLM only gets worse as Tony refuses to enforce Ron DeSantis’ HB1, a law that was designed to crack down on BLM-ANTIFA, mostly peaceful protesters. In a WIOD radio interview with Brian Mudd, Tony said, “I spoke early on about my opposition against it, meaning that we didn’t really need any other legislation to do our job. There’s a multitude of different legislation that has been on the books for decades and we’ve been effective in handling any type of civil unrest. So, in my opinion, there was no great need for it here in Broward County. The community felt the same way,” Tony has this interview proudly displayed on his Facebook page.

Tony’s public embrace of BLM-ANTIFA made Broward County, Florida, a hotbed for Jane’s Revenge-ANTIFA terrorism in 2022 following the United States Supreme Court’s overturn of Roe v Wade. According to filings from Florida AG Moody, Jane’s Revenge-ANTIFA “destroyed the property of South Broward Pregnancy Help Center in Hollywood, Florida (the
‘Hollywood Facility’). The Hollywood Facility offers free counseling, pregnancy testing, and ultrasound examinations to women with unexpected pregnancies. The Hollywood Facility relies ‘on donations from parishes, schools, community groups, and individual donors.’ Defendants spray painted threats including ‘If abortions aren’t SAFE then niether [sic] are you.'”

Predictably, Broward County, Florida, became a popular location for the mostly peaceful pro-Hamas protests that have broken out across America. A news report from October in Fort Lauderdale shows hundreds of masked Hamas supporters chanting “from the river to the sea” and waving Hamas flags outside the Fort Lauderdale Court House. Unsurprisingly, Sheriff Tony had no issue with this protest despite it being illegal to cover your face at Florida protests. Ron DeSantis has yet to criticize Tony for his poor response to the mostly peaceful Hamas protests.

Gregory Tony also shares ties with elements of radical Islam. Tony hosted a ‘9/11 Memorial’ in 2022 that included noted member of the radical Islamic community, Shafayat Mohamed.

Mohamed runs an organization called the ‘Darul Uloom Institute‘, where he taught the convicted terrorist, “Dirty Bomber” Jose Padilla. Mohamed has even claimed that he prayed over several of the terrorists who committed the 9/11 terror attacks. See a photo of Tony and Mohamed below…

Just like everywhere else in America that has embraced the mostly peaceful protest movement, Broward County, Florida, has a higher crime rate than normal. According to Best Places to Live, “Broward, FL County has higher than average rates of both violent and property crime. Violent crime in the county is 25.1, which is 2.4 points higher than the national average of 22.7. Similarly, property crime in Broward is 47.5, significantly higher than the national average of 35.4. These figures demonstrate that Broward has a higher crime rate than other parts of the United States, making it important for residents to stay vigilant and aware of their surroundings at all times.”

Interestingly, the City of Ft Lauderdale has deleted its crime stats from official city websites. Why could this be? It sure looks like Tony and DeSantis are attempting to cover up the disaster they have unleashed onto the citizens of Broward County. It’s extremely sad to see the citizens of Florida continuing to have to make sacrifices for Ron DeSantis’ failed presidential campaign.

The Florida Constitution gives Ron DeSantis the power to fire Tony as the key clause reads, “Article IV, section 7(a), of the State Constitution, authorizes the Governor to suspend any state officer not subject to impeachment or any county officer on any of the following grounds: malfeasance, misfeasance, neglect of duty, drunkenness, incompetence, permanent inability to perform official duties, or commission of a felony.” So why hasn’t DeSantis fired Tony yet?

Tony’s lies about his arrest in a Philadelphia murder investigation, along with his lies about drug use and his embracement of CRT training, BLM-Antifa, and a high crime rate, definitely make an incredibly strong argument that Tony is guilty of neglect of duty. This should have been Ron DeSantis’ easiest firing in history, but instead, he chose to defend and praise Tony. Could this be because DeSantis is receiving presidential campaign donations from individuals who are both anti-Trump and anti-law and order?

Ron DeSantis’ decision to praise Tony on CNN instead of firing him is just more indication that DeSantis is nothing more than a tool of the Left. Supporters of Trump and America First should never give Ron DeSantis a second chance again.
