In a recent vote on an amendment to a spending bill, 70 Republicans in the House of Representatives voted in support of funding a new headquarters building for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) with an estimated cost of $300 million. Representative Matt Gaetz (FL-01) proposed an amendment to the spending bill in question that would block funding for the new FBI building planned for Greenbelt, Maryland to replace the J. Edgar Hoover Building built in Washington, D.C. in 1975.

The vote on Rep. Gaetz’s proposed amendment failed on a vote of 145 to 273. The slim Republican majority in the House could have passed the amendment if it were unified in opposition to the corrupt U.S. intelligence agencies like the FBI. However, 70 Republicans thought a new FBI building would be a prudent use of $300 million in taxpayer funding.

“Time after time,” Gaetz said in a statement, “we have seen the FBI target President Trump, people who believe in the Second Amendment, parents attending school board meetings, and more recently, some of their own brave FBI whistleblowers who have spoken up about the weaponization of our Federal Government. We should not be awarding nefarious behavior by wasting hundreds of millions of dollars for a new headquarters in the D.C. area. Although my amendment failed, I will continue my fight to defang and defund government agencies that have been weaponized against the American people.”

The FBI is ostensibly a federal law enforcement agency under the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) purview. The Attorney General leads the DOJ, a role currently filled by Merrick Garland. Garland’s tenure as Attorney General has been filled with scandals, including profiling based on religious and political ideology.

Under Garland’s leadership in the DOJ, a memo was exposed confirming that the FBI has been targeting American Catholics in search of “racially motivated violent extremists,” which culminated in the FBI raid on the home of pro-life activist Mark Houck where he was arrested at gunpoint in front of his wife and children. He’s since been acquitted, but it sent a clear message from the FBI to American Catholics and pro-lifers.

The FBI was also involved in the Capitol protests on January 6th, 2021, which was reported on thoroughly by Revolver News and even confirmed by the New York Times. Federal agents infiltrated the pro-Trump demonstrations to make the crowd, and anyone who believes the 2020 election was rigged, seem like dangerous “insurrectionists.”

In an October 2021 memorandum, Attorney General Garland directed federal law enforcement, which includes the FBI, to root out “a disturbing spike in harassment, intimidation, and threats of violence against school administrators.” It turns out the source that reported that “disturbing spike” to the DOJ was the far-left National School Board Association, which didn’t like parents showing up to school board meetings and complaining about leftist, anti-white, and pro-LGBT propaganda imposed on their kids in public schools.

This is the agency that almost one-third of the Republicans in the House of Representatives think deserves more funding.
