Twitter Suspends Account Retweeted By President Trump
On Monday morning, President Donald Trump retweeted a message by a supporter of his on Twitter, @ChatbyCC.
By Monday afternoon, the account was suspended.
The tweet that preceded @ChatbyCC’s suspension read, “The transcripts of the calls completely exonerates President Trump of any wrongdoing. President Zelensky, of Ukraine, also exonerates President Trump of any wrongdoing. The only people guilty of wrongdoing are the democrats & fake news media.”
President Trump has retweeted @ChatbyCC on multiple occasions. In another tweet shared by the president, @ChatbyCC wrote “I weep for our country because of what Adam Schiff, Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats are doing to our President.”
Twitter has a bad habit of suspending accounts that have been amplified by President Trump.
In July, Twitter suspended the account Lynn Thomas for allegedly breaking Twitter’s rules against “using multiple accounts to artificially amplify or disrupt conversations.”
Thomas’s tweet shared by Trump read, “Democrats are the only ones interfering in our elections. Why do you think they so strongly opposed voter ID?” and included an image that said, “Democrats are the true enemies of America!”
Corporate media reported that Thomas was the second account retweeted by President Trump that Twitter suspended for allegedly violating its rules.
Twitter also recently suspended several people for tweeting the phrase “I hired Donald Trump to fire people like Yovanovitch” after it trended on Twitter. The viral tweet referred to Marie Yovanovitch, one of the Democrat witnesses in the ongoing impeachment proceedings. President Trump fired Yovanovitch from her position as U.S. ambassador to Ukraine.
Prominent Trump supporters have been systematically erased from Twitter following his election in 2016. Laura Loomer, Alex Jones, and Gavin McInnes are just some of the prominent Trump supporters suspended by Twitter.
Twitter has announced that in January 2020, just in time for the presidential race to swing into high gear as the primary season starts, Twitter will institute new Terms of Service.
The new rules state explicitly that Twitter’s Terms of Service allow for the Big Tech giant to shadowban accounts it disapproves of.
“Our Services evolve constantly. As such, the Services may change from time to time, at our discretion. We may stop (permanently or temporarily) providing the Services or any features within the Services to you or to users generally. We also retain the right to create limits on use and storage at our sole discretion at any time. We may also remove or refuse to distribute any Content on the Services, limit distribution or visibility of any Content on the service, suspend or terminate users, and reclaim usernames without liability to you.”
After she was banned from Twitter, Laura Loomer wrote, “Twitter claims to have a terms of service that outlines what behavior is and isn’t appropriate, but it is evident they selectively choose how to enforce their rules”
Laura Loomer is currently suing Twitter and three other Big Tech giants that have censored both her and other conservatives.
The District Court for the District of Columbia had dismissed Loomer’s lawsuit, but on appeal Loomer and the nonprofit group Freedom Watch prevailed over the Big Tech companies, which must now face Loomer at trial.
