As With Israel for Peace (MIFF) has pointed out in several articles this fall, new Palestinian Authority school books are much more extreme than before. Violence, martyrdom and jihad have been the subject of all twelve years in Palestinian Authority elementary school. With Israel for Peace (MIFF) has translated 44 examples that document this. Now a majority of Norway’s Parliament has decided that the government should reduce or withhold financial support for the Palestinian Authority if they do not provide satisfactory improvements in school books within a reasonable time.

We can no longer sit still and watch Norwegian money contribute to a teaching system that encourages children to violence and promote racism and anti-Semitism. Now that’s enough, says Hans Andreas Limi, member of FRP’s foreign and defense faction and parliamentary leader of FRP’s parliamentary group in a press release.

The Norwegian authorities contribute tens of millions of NOK annually to the Palestinian Authority education sector. Now the government parties Frp, KrF, Right and Left – in addition to the opposition party Center Party – say that they will withhold money if the contents of the Palestinian Authority school books do not change.

It is historic that we now demand that the Palestinian Authority document for the future that the textbooks they use in education should not have racist, anti-Semitic or anti-Jewish texts and descriptions, says Christian Tybring-Gjedde of the Progress Party in an interview with MIFF.

This decision shall be followed up. We will be on top of the Foreign Minister every single day from now on, ”says Tybring-Gjedde.

The Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee’s decision states that the financial support for the Palestinian Authority should be withheld “if they do not provide satisfactory improvements in school supplies”. Tybring-Gjedde believes it is high time for the Norwegian authorities to close the money tap.

It is embarrassing that Norwegian tax dollars have gone to finance hatred against Israel. I simply think it is incomprehensible.

Right-wing parliamentary representative Ingjerd Schou, who sits on the Foreign and Defense Committee, is pleased that the government parties have agreed on this historic decision.

“I am very pleased that we reached an agreement between the government parties in the Foreign Affairs Committee. We have worked extensively on this issue and received good input. This is a matter that many of us think is very important, ”she says.

The Georg Eckert Institute for International Textbook Research in Germany reviewed the school books on behalf of several donors. Schou says they will await their review and follow up on the results.

This decision sends a very strong signal to the Palestinian Authority that we find the curriculum content uncovered completely unacceptable, and that Norway must withhold support if this is not improved, says the High-ranking politician.

With Israel for Peace (MIFF) has also tried to get a comment from the KrF party, but so far without success.
