A Muslim American activist and reformer who warns against the dangers of radical Islam, specifically among leftist activist types and elected officials, is starting a video series to expound upon her cause.
As a Muslim reformer in this space, there are a few issues I keep seeing around that videos address,” Shireen Qudosi said in an email to LauraLoomer.us. “Number one thing people are confused about is thinking that Islamism means Islam, defaulting the convo into the realm of hate and racism.”
Qudosi plans to teach Americans the difference between Islam and Islamism – the latter of which she describes as “fundamentalism.”
“Non-Muslim allies who support Islamists don’t understand how Islamists promote a strain of religious fundamentalism. This needs to be exposed repeatedly,” she said.
She believes that this will help liberal and secular allies of Islamism to better understand that they are, perhaps unwittingly, supporting a pernicious and perverted version of Islam.
“The counter narrative to Islamism isn’t just one movement opposed by another, but the people representing those movements challenged by a different brand of people. Islamist figureheads are bent with rage, depressing and bitter,” Qudosi said. “Meanwhile, someone like myself represents a much more positive visual and message that appeals to folks who typically don’t care about religion but favor softer patterns embraced by cultural icons like Rebecca Solnit, Charles Eisenstein, Brene Brown, David Whyte, and so forth.”
Some of those “Islamist figureheads,” according to Qudosi, are Muslim Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), along with former Women’s March board member, activist, and Muslim Brotherhood supporter Linda Sarsour.
Qudosi noted as much in a recent video posted to her Twitter account.
“Anti-American voices like Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, CAIR, and Linda Sarsour are America’s nightmare. We can do better and show what it means to be American Muslim. AMERICAN FIRST …Muslim second,” she said, attaching a gif of Omar bragging that she is a “nightmare” to President Donald J. Trump.
According to Qudosi, the video series will be focused on “creating short 1-2 minutes videos directly challenging the rhetoric and brand represented by American Islamists like Ilhan Omar, Linda Sarsour, Rashida Tlaib and CAIR.”
Since Tlaib and Omar have taken office, they have sowed only hatred and division in the United States. After numerous incidents of anti-Semitism, including sharing a cartoon drawn by a Holocaust denier, accusing congresspeople who support Israel of “dual loyalty” to the United States and Israel, and actively supporting the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement, which seeks to destroy the state of Israel. Sarsour is known for calling for jihad against Trump, and for praising a radical Imam who is an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombings as a “mentor” and inspiration. She is also a far-left activist.
Qudosi’s educational video series will be a welcome learning experience, and appears to be part of a movement of reformist Islam that is gaining more visibility in the West.
Qudosi is part of the same school of thought as Imam Tawhidi, known online as the Imam of Peace. He, too, is a Muslim reformer who advocates against Islamism.
