In perhaps the most overtly authoritarian move from a Democratic Party presidential candidate yet, Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) twice called for President Donald J. Trump’s Twitter account to be suspended.

“Look let’s be honest, [President Trump’s] Twitter account should be suspended,” she said at 8:42 PM.

She explained further in a video posted on The Hill’s Twitter account at 10:13 PM.

“His Twitter account should be suspended,” Harris said. “I think there is plenty of, of, now, evidence to suggest that he is irresponsible with his words in a way that could result in harm to other people. And so the privilege of using those words in that way should probably be taken from him.”

Harris is dropping fast in nationwide polls, so it makes sense that she would move to the extreme left in an effort to court far-left voters who believe in censorship based on political affiliation. However, the idea that Trump’s Twitter account should be suspended is patently absurd.

Like it or not, the world economy responds to Trump’s tweets. Geopolitical affairs have been conducted in the open on President Trump’s twitter account.

Shutting his account down would have disastrous consequences Harris clearly hasn’t thought through.

Worse, Harris is upping the ante on tech totalitarianism. The political left has replaced the First Amendment with “Terms of Service,” made up arbitrarily by far-left corporate executives at tech giants like Twitter and Facebook. These terms generally classify ordinary right-wing opinions as “Hate Speech,” and are grounds for termination from the platforms. Trump, as with the rest of the right- wing that has been wrongly banned by Big Tech, has broken no actual laws. His messaging, though, is effective.

This, in order to silence him, the political left is making up a new set of laws not grounded in the Bill of Rights, but grounded in the feelings of our tech overlords. To think that a “President Harris” would support such totalitarianism is alarming, to say the least.

Harris’ tweet was swamped with replies in support of Trump.

“Honestly, no one cares what you think,” actor Nick Searcy said.

“Sorry you don’t like the constitution. Maybe you should run for leader of a different country,” Jessica Fletcher replied.

Unsurprisingly, though, some on the deranged left sided with Harris.

“Say it LOUDER for the traitors in the back, Senator Harris!!! No INNOCENT person conducts themselves the way trump does, and NOBODY who wants to be taken seriously as President threatens the country with Civil War. He should be in a straight jacket,” one #Resist-er said.

“But there’s so much incriminating evidence in his tweets! Let impeach and then suspend,” another far-leftist said.

Harris’ proposal illustrates the partisan divide in America quite nicely.

One side – the political right – has viable ideas that are popular among the American people at large. The other side, absorbed primarily with a radical social justice agenda that is unpopular among ordinary working-class Americans, seeks to silence the former because it cannot compete in a free market of ideas.

This is modern American politics in a nutshell.
