It’s not everyday that you see one dirty cop trash another, but perhaps the old saying is true: there’s no honor among thieves – or in this case, rogue Department of Justice Employees.
Former Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who oversaw the comical “Russian collusion” investigation into President Donald J. Trump which turned up nothing, enraging the political left, took to Twitter Thursday to throw shade at disgraced former FBI Director James Comey for mishandling classified information pertaining that case.
“It is important .. to follow established policies and procedures, especially when the stakes are high…. We should be most on guard when we believe that our own uncomfortable .. circumstances justify ignoring .. principles respected by our predecessors,” Rosenstein said on Twitter, sharing a 2018 letter that he wrote to Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) at the time.
But this time, it was directed at Comey in light of the fact that Thursday, Comey was deemed to have kept at least one classified memo in his home safe, where unauthorized people, including his radically far-left activist wife had access to it. Attorney General Bill Barr scolded Comey for breaking FBI protocol, but chose not to prosecute him criminally for breaking the law.
Remember, this is the same Comey who chose not to prosecute Hillary Clinton for the same crime of mishandling classified information, demonstrating to the public that there is no accountability among America’s political elite.
But here’s where is gets really rich: If you think Rosenstein is somehow the good guy in all this, he’s most certainly not. His morally superior tweets can’t make up for the fact that he, too, is a swamp creature. All we’ve really got here is a couple of despised rogue DOJ employees catfighting.
Rosenstein was reportedly under investigation by his own department last year, and lost his ability to serve FISA warrants, secret warrants handed down by secret courts that were used to spy on Trump’s campaign under the pretext of the phony Steele Dossier, which was paid for by the Clinton campaign and has still never been verified.
A former United States Attorney for the District of Columbia dropped bombshell news on Fox News’ “Hannity” on Wednesday night.
“The bottom line here is that we can no longer trust the Department [of Justice],” said Joe DiGenova. “[Rosenstein] has a big problem with FISA personally. He’s now under investigation and he can’t do FISA’s anymore.”
Hannity stopped his guest to clarify, and DiGenova obliged.
“Rosenstein is under investigation for things that involve the FISA warrants, and here’s the key thing – Sessions is out of all this,” he said. “He can’t do anything. So where are we in the Department? We have a mess of such proportions that there is nothing that can be done about it. I do not trust at this point that the Inspector General who has no subpoena authority is going to be able to get to the bottom of this.”
Rosenstein was also under threat of impeachment from the U.S. House of Representatives for his handling of the Trump/Russia fiasco.
He also stands accused of submitting false documents to the Senate Judiciary Committee concerning his interrogation of Hillary Clinton in the Whitewater case in 1998.
If there are any good guys at the DOJ, Rosenstein sure isn’t one of them. Don’t let his holier-than-thou attitude fool you. The swamp runs deep.
