A woman is dead after she was stabbed to death “at random” in Washington, D.C. Tuesday night by an Ethiopian man.
“Margery Magill, a California native who was interning the capital for the summer, suffered multiple stab wounds and bled out on the sidewalk just before 9pm on Tuesday,” Daily Mail said. “Police say 24-year-old Eliyas Aregahegne randomly targeted Magill as she was walking a dog for a family who hired her through the Rover app.”
Magill, 27, had a bachelor’s degree from the University of California – Davis, and a master’s degree from the University of Westminster.
According to Heavy, she was working as Program Coordinator at the Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship, and she was “advising 90 graduate-level students during a two-year intensive professional development fellowship preparing students to enter the Foreign Service with the U.S. Department of State upon graduation.”
Aregahegne reportedly targeted her at “random”, stabbing her before she bled out on the sidewalk. He has been charged with first degree murder, and his motive is unknown. Police said that there was no robbery or sexual assault attempt, and that Aregahegne was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol when he committed the crime.
Aregahegne has something of a sordid past. He reportedly attended the University of Wisconsin – Madison for one semester in 2013. In 2017, he was reported as a missing person in Washington, D.C.
“The Metropolitan Police Department of Washington D.C. wrote on Twitter in 2017, “#MissingPerson Eliyas Wendale Aregahegne, 22, last seen 7/15 in 3000 b/o 14th St, NW. Seen him? Call 202-727-9099 or text 50411,” Heavy said.
They also posted a missing persons flyer describing what Aregahegne was wearing, and said that he “may be in need of medication.”
His social media accounts included praise for both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.
