“Nice life you’ve got there. It’d be a shame if someone destroyed it, leaving you and your family in poverty and despair for the crime of not being leftists.”
That’s the message that the mainstream press has been sending to anyone who dares to be a conservative in the late 2010’s.
Remember when they doxxed a Facebook grandma for unknowingly contributing to a Facebook page run by a Russian company, fueling the conspiracy theory that President Donald J. Trump was a Russian agent? She received death threats. I wrote about them in my latest book Enemies: The Press vs. The American People.
Remember when they threatened to dox an anonymous Reddit user over a gif they didn’t like, forcing him into an apology?
This is the same media that lie about me, Laura Loomer, and any other conservative media figures incessantly. So excuse us if we’re not exactly bent out of shape that their old tweets are resurfacing and getting them in trouble.
Sunday, The New York Times, formerly the paper of record, wrote a whiny story complaining that the Trump allies are “discrediting” journalists by – get this – highlighting vile things that those journalists have said or done publicly.
“A loose network of conservative operatives allied with the White House is pursuing what they say will be an aggressive operation to discredit news organizations deemed hostile to President Trump by publicizing damaging information about journalists,” the paper said.
“Operatives have closely examined more than a decade’s worth of public posts and statements by journalists, the people familiar with the operation said,” the paper continued. “Only a fraction of what the network claims to have uncovered has been made public, the paper said, with more to be disclosed as the 2020 election heats up. The research is said to extend to members of journalists’ families who are active in politics, as well as liberal activists and other political opponents of the president.”
Namely, they mentioned Arthur Schwartz, a high-level operative in D.C.
Schwartz bashed both The Times and CNN for the report.
“My role in these efforts was profoundly over exaggerated in that NYT story. But interesting that CNN’s immediate response is to suggest that my First Amendment rights should be limited because CNN doesn’t like what I have to say,” he said, quoting CNN’s Brian Stelter.
The piece was written just days after its editor Tom Wright-Piersanti was exposed for past anti-Semitic Tweets. Instead of firing him, the paper disparaged those who publish similar comments made by mainstream media figures.
The media are dumb. We know that. But this has to be the biggest self-own in media history. If the things you’ve said publicly discredit you, or the media organization you work for, perhaps the media are just as awful as Trump says. The New York Times is acting like it’s a crime against humanity simply to show the world how its employees actually behave. Get a grip.
Conservative reporter Jack Posobiec, not directly named in The Times’ report, summed it up nicely in a livestream.
“We learned this from you,” he said. “You taught us this game. We learned this from watching you. Now it’s time to turn it around.”
Nice lives you’ve got there, mainstream media. It would be a shame if someone ruined them.
