On Monday evening, Fox News host Geraldo Rivera responded to a viral video clip of CNN’s Chris Cuomo getting triggered over a civilian calling him “Fredo” by stating Cuomo “should have clocked that douche,” on Twitter.
The hashtag #Fredo was the #1 trend on Twitter Tuesday morning following a short video clip that went viral Monday evening having been viewed millions of times.

In the video, CNN’s Chris Cuomo responds to a civilian who called him the nickname “Fredo” by threatening to “ruin” him and throw the civilian down a flight of stairs.
The clip begins with the civilian telling Cuomo, he thought that Fredo was his nickname, to which Cuomo responds, “No, punk-ass bitches from the right call me Fredo. My name is Chris Cuomo. I’m an anchor on CNN. Fredo is from The Godfather – he was the weak brother.”
Cuomo then told the civilian that using the nickname Fredo was racist. “They use it as an Italian aspersion. Any of you Italian? It’s a fucking insult to your people. It’s an insult to your fucking people. It’s like the N-word for us. So, is that a cool fucking thing?”
Cuomo became increasingly more agitated during the altercation, while the civilian attempted to de-escalate it by saying, “Hey man, listen, I don’t want any problems dude.”
Cuomo, rather than backing off responds saying, “I’ll fucking ruin your shit. I’ll fucking throw you down these stairs like a fucking punk.”
The verbal altercation between Cuomo and the unidentified civilian happened on Sunday night at a Shelter Island bar in Long Island, New York. Cuomo happens to be on vacation and will not return to CNN until next week.
Twitter user That’s The Point with Brandon (@THEECONSTITUTI1) posted the video clip sent to him by the civilian in the video Monday night on Twitter.
Donald Trump Jr. tweeted out clarification Monday night, in agreement with Katrina Pierson’s statement that being called “Fredo” implies that you’re the dumb brother from the movie The Godfather, and not a racial slur.
Many other Twitter users agreed that the use of “Fredo” had nothing to do with race, and everything to do with the character from The Godfather‘s IQ.
Trump Jr. referenced an earlier clip where the nickname “Fredo” was used live on CNN by Ana Navarro and Cuomo had absolutely no response, ignoring her comment all together.
Conservative duo Diamond and Silk echoed Don Jr.’s sentiment Tuesday morning, calling out Cuomo’s hypocrisy.
“Remember when Anna Navarro referred to Don Jr. as Fredo while filing her nails on the @ChrisCuomo show. I don’t remember him calling her out for using that word. Now he’s all upset because someone used the word on him. #Hypocrite Boo Hoo, Cry me a river!”
CNN’s Vice President of Communications, Matt Dornic, tweeted support for Cuomo, and reiterated Cuomo’s declaration that “Fredo” was an “ethnic slur” and claimed that the altercation at the bar was an “orchestrated setup”.
Tuesday morning, President Donald Trump tweeted he also thought Cuomo was “Fredo”.
