Three U.S. intelligence officials report they’ve received word that Son of Osama bin Laden and prospective heir, Hamza, is dead.
NBC News first reported the story on Wednesday, but noted that officials had not yet provided any details to the time or place of Hamza’s reported death.
The State Department reported that Hamza, often referred to as ‘the crown prince of jihad,’ had released several video and audio messages calling for attacks against the United States earlier this year, which resulted in the State Department posting a $1 million bounty for any information leading to his capture just this past February.
“Hamza bin Laden’s last known public statement was released by al Qaeda’s media arm in 2018. In that message, he threatened Saudi Arabia and called on the people of the Arabian peninsula to revolt,” reported NBC News on Wednesday.
30-year old Hamza bin Laden was added to the U.S. terrorist blackist in early January of 2019 after his messages calling for violence against both the U.S. and its allies were released to the public via the Internet.
U.S. authorities state Hamza was executing his late father’s orders, as well as seeking revenge for Osama’s May 2011 death in Abbottabad, Pakistan at the hands of the SEAL Team 6.
Hamza was not present when his father’s compound was raided and over the years Hamza has been reported to have been living in several locations including Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan and Syria.
When President Trump was questioned about the reports of Hamza bin Laden’s death, he responded, “I don’t want to comment on it.”
