An all-out war of words has been launched between Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Fox News host Tucker Carlson, after Omar called America “unjust,” among other nasty names.

“I grew up in an extremely unjust society, and the only thing that made my family excited about coming to the United States was that the United States was supposed to be the country that guaranteed justice to all,” Omar told students at a high school speech. “So, I feel it necessary for me to speak about that promise that’s not kept.”

Tuesday night, Carlson blasted Omar on “Tucker Carlson Tonight.”

He said:

Ilhan Omar is living proof that the way we practice immigration has become dangerous to this country,” Carlson said. “A system designed to strengthen America is instead undermining it. Some of the very people we try hardest to help have come to hate us passionately. Maybe that’s our fault for asking too little of our immigrants. We aren’t self-confident enough to make them assimilate, so they never feel fully American.”

“Or maybe the problem is deeper than that,” he continued. “Maybe we’re importing people from places whose values are simply antithetical to ours. Who knows that the problem is? But there is a problem, and whatever the cause, this cannot continue. It’s not sustainable. No country can import large numbers of people who hate it and expect to survive. The Romans were the last to try that, with predictable results.”

“So be grateful for Ilhan Omar, annoying as she is. She’s a living fire alarm – a warning to the rest of us that we better change our immigration system immediately or else,” he finished.

Omar responded on Twitter Tuesday night by calling Carlson a “racist fool.”

But she just couldn’t get Carlson out of her mind, and continued to attack through Wednesday. She called for a boycott of his show.

“Fox News is now giving a nightly platform to white supremacist rhetoric,” she said. “It’s dangerous. Advertisers should not be underwriting hate speech.”

Ironically, she was retweeting a clip posted by Jewish Action. She has frequently been criticized for her anti-Semitism. She suggested that Congresspeople who support Israel have “dual loyalty” to both nations, an anti-Semitic trope. She also suggested that Congress was bought-and-paid for by Israel, and Tweeted several years ago that “Israel has hypnotized the world.” (But by all means, she’ll lecture the rest of us on racism).

Omar continued her calls for boycotting in later Tweets.

She retweeted a New York Magazine Tweet criticizing Carlson.

“Tucker Carlson’s hateful monologue about Ilhan Omar serves as an object lesson on the right’s intellectual bankruptcy and moral cowardice,” the Tweet said.

Carlson has often faced boycott calls for taking on the subject of immigration. The political left calls him racist for advocating both for closed borders and a merit-based immigration system, two sane policies practiced in every other developed country on earth.

His show is consistently one of the highest-rated on cable news, and this dustup likely won’t affect his advertisers.
