An illegal alien living in North Carolina stands accused of murdering his ex-wife and his two children with the help of his underage girlfriend, according to police.

“Areli Aguirre Avilez, 30, is charged with murder in the death of 38-year-old mother Maria Calderon, and her children, 11-year-old Angel Pacheco and 12-year-old America Pacheco,” Fox46 reported.

The children were found shot to death inside their home, which was burned down. Calderon’s body has not been found, but she is presumed dead. The Alexander County Sheriff’s department said that at Avilez’s command, his 16-year-old girlfriend ran Calderon over with a vehicle before the pair dumped her body into the Catawba river. The girl has been charged with murder and arson.

The brutal murder comes during a time of gridlock in Washington D.C. on the subject of border security. Both Democrats and Republicans have failed to make any progress in securing the wide open U.S. Southern border.

In the two years during which Republicans controlled the U.S. House and Senate at the beginning of President Donald J. Trump’s first term, establishment GOP members like former Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell failed to pass legislation that would have secured the border.

Meanwhile, congressional Democrats are busy doing whatever they can to block meaningful border security legislation. Trump shut the federal government down in an attempt to add border security funding to the 2019 budget, which was met with hostility from the political left. He later declared a national state of emergency over the crisis at the border, which currently has more than 2,000 foreigners crossing illegally every day.

Trump has been blocked by federal courts in using any federal funding – even from the Department of Defense as he had planned – to build his promised border wall.

Meanwhile, the esteemed members of Congress have been duking it out over the definition of the term “concentration camp.” Freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez claimed that migrant detention centers – kindly provided by the U.S. taxpayer to house migrants awaiting any number of proceedings in immigration courts, are “concentration camps,” a term generally associated with the Nazi Holocaust.

Monday, she made a trip to one of the migrant detention centers, run by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol. While there, she claimed that the behavior of CBP agents was “toxic,” and that residents were forced to drink water out of toilets. Her account has been disputed by the agency.
